Does Shaffer’s offer courtesy cars while my car is being repaired?
Shaffer’s has over 40 courtesy cars available for customer use while their vehicle is being repaired.

Do I have to do all repairs listed on my estimate?
No.  We will review your estimate with you and present all the options for items that you may choose to not have
repaired, or have partially repaired. We will tell you which items must be repaired from a safety perspective, and which items are purely cosmetic. Many people choose to do a partial repair when they are paying for the repairs out of their own pocket.

Do I have to go through insurance?
There are a few things to think about when dealing with insurance:
           > Will the claim affect my monthly premium?
           > Have I had speeding tickets or other accidents that will affect my insurance?
           > Will I loose my “good driver” discount?
           > Will I run the risk of being dropped or placed on “high risk” status?
We recommend that you contact your insurance agent to find out how your potential claim would affect your insurance.

What if I don’t have insurance?
We can discuss your options for doing temporary repairs to make your car safe and functional until you are able to afford a more complete final repair job.  We will also give you options on partial repairs to stay as cost effective as possible.  We will help you consider the age, mileage, condition of your car and help you decide what repairs would be realistic and cost effective.

My car is a total loss.  What are my options?
You have the right to retain your car if it is deemed a total loss.  You do not have to let the insurance company take it.  We can present options for repair and help you determine if it is more cost effective to keep and repair your car, or replace the car. Many of our customers have found that it is more cost effective for them to retain the vehicle and repair it, than to replace it immediately.  For example; if you have recently made a large investment in your car, you would possibly loose this if the insurance company takes it in a total loss.  Or, you may simply want to get a few more years out of your car before replacing it.  Our staff  will help you sort through all these options.

What are “Damage Disclosure Requirements”?
Currently, the state of Iowa requires that, when you sell your car,  you  disclose to a potential buyer any accident in which your car sustained more than 50% of the car’s retail value at the time of the accident.  This law only applies to vehicles that are 7years old or newer.  After 7 years, you do not have to disclose any damage to the vehicle to a potential buyer.
